Focusing on yourself isn't selfish

When was the last time you focused on yourself? When was the last time you stopped to consider your needs, without also taking into account what someone else wanted for you? When was the last time you checked in on yourself? When was the last time you stopped to think about what really matters to you and what you want your life to be?

Focusing on yourself it's an act of self-love. Focusing on yourself and doing something for you isn't selfish and can greatly increase your emotional stability. In my honest opinion we all need to look after ourselves more. We need to focus on our self-development, to work on developing our self-love, to be more self-aware, to value our self-work and to prioritise our self-care every single day. It isn’t just ok to look after you, it is fundamental!

I'm pretty sure that most people think that their own self development is not a priority and that their self-care is something that they do when they have time.

I think it's safe to say that if you never stop to consider others, your relationships probably won’t thrive, but you still need to take a break and think about what you need. Taking time for self-care may prevent the exhaustion that sometimes results from focusing only on the needs of others. I don’t believe that looking after yourself means that this should be to the detriment of other people or excluding others. You can think about yourself and not be selfish.

This whole idea of focusing on yourself isn’t as self-centered as it sounds. In fact, it’s one of the best things you can do for your well-being.

This may sound harsh, but you are responsible for you; You are responsible for your actual obligations but you cannot keep up with everyone’s desires or even try to help them when you have exhausted all your own resources already.

“You always have to take care of yourself before you take care of others.”
